Chris Duncan played spoiler earlier today (Sat., Sept. 28, 2024) at UFC Paris live on ESPN+ from inside Accor Arena in Paris, France, stopping Belgium prospect, Bolaji Oki, with an impressive guillotine choke in the first round.
Oki came into this “Prelims” opener as the betting favorite coming off a flat win in his UFC debut. The “Zulu Warrior” looked super aggressive in the early going with hard strikes and constant pressure. Duncan was finding it difficult to gain Oki’s respect and kept trying to grapple.
Later in the first, Oki was tied up with Duncan along the cage and tripped him towards the ground. As the action was about to hit the canvas Duncan locked up a tight guillotine choke. Oki fought it off for a while and looked to have popped his head free. Duncan ended up letting go off his back and started to land punches. He quickly noticed Oki was out cold from the choke, told the referee, and the fight was stopped. It was pretty wild.
Check out video highlights in the above player.
Duncan, 31, is now 3-1 as a member of the UFC’s stacked lightweight division. This was a big win for the Scottish fighter given the fact that he was coming off a submission loss to Manuel Torres his last time out. Things will only get tougher for Duncan as he climbs the 155-pound ladder, but his ability to finish on the feet and on the ground should lead to more success.
