Tim Elliott turned in one of his most impressive performances to date earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 18, 2023) at UFC Vegas 83 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the flyweight veteran stepped in on short notice and ended up stopping Su Mudaerji with a first-round submission (arm-triangle choke).
Elliott was filling in for an injured Allan Nascimento so the fight was contested in the bantamweight division. Mudaerji looked good in the early going as he leaned on his reach to pop Elliott from range. Elliott, who is one of the toughest fighters to figure out, kept dodging and weaving around finding his own opportunities to land offense.
Elliott eventually changed levels and started to take Mudaerji down. Mudaerji has been submitted quite a bit in his career so it was only a matter of time before Elliott had a chance to put this fight away. During a scramble towards the end of the first round he locked up a tight arm-triangle choke and made Mudaerji spit up his blood before passing out.

Elliott, 36, was coming off a submission loss to flyweight youngster Muhammad Mokaev his last time out so this was a big way to close out 2023. As long as the UFC continues to feed Elliott fights he’ll continue to show up and compete against the best flyweights in the world. Sometimes he’ll come up short, other times he’ll pitch a shutout like Saturday night.
