Former GLORY kickboxing standout Jhonata Diniz delivered a huge knockout earlier tonight (Sat., April 27, 2024) at UFC Vegas 91 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, stopping heavyweight Austen Lane with a second-round stoppage in his official Octagon debut.
Lane, who is known for his punching power, came into this fight with a great gameplan. Diniz is a talented striker capable of throwing punches and kicks with fight-ending intentions so Lane decided to utilize his wrestling early on. He was able to score full mount and landed hard punches before the close of the first round.
Lane looked to go back to the well in the second frame, but Diniz was able to defend a few sloppy takedown attempts and finally connected with his hands. Lane was hurt and that allowed Diniz the chance to land one final left hook that toppled the former NFL player like a tall redwood.
Check out the final moments in the above video player.
Diniz, 32, has over 10 years of kickboxing and Muay Thai experience so exchanging with Lane on the feet wasn’t a huge deal. However, the Brazilian striker needs to show better takedown defense moving forward if he wants to climb the heavyweight ranks and put his elite punching ability to use.
