Claudio Silva pushed his current MMA win streak to 14 in a row earlier today (Sat., Aug. 3, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 5 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, when he made easy work of welterweight newcomer Cole Williams via first-round submission (rear-naked choke).
As the biggest favorite on the card, Silva wasted little time closing the gap and dragging Williams to the canvas. After a barrage of short punches to the side of the head and chin, Silva quickly positioned himself for a rear-naked choke attempt. Williams was clearly outmatched and didn’t do much to defend the submission. Silva cranked and eventually forced the tap.

With this performance, Silva locks down his fifth Octagon win in as many appearances, which also includes a 2014 victory over welterweight contender Leon Edwards. The 36-year-old Brazilian is a very dangerous fighter even in the jam-packed welterweight division, but he needs to stay healthy in order to make a real push into the top 15. Hopefully “Hannibal” can remain active moving forward and showcase his true skills against more established foe.
