Jon Jones reclaimed UFC light heavyweight gold last night (Sat., Dec. 29, 2018) at UFC 232 live on pay-per-view from inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson via third-round TKO in the main event.
While Gustafsson pushed a lot of the pressure and landed some solid left hooks, Jones controlled the range from the opening bell. He stung Gustafsson early with an elbow from the outside and leaned heavy on powerful leg kicks and body kicks to wilt the towering Swede head-to-toe.
Jones’ efforts came to a head in the third round when he was able to get inside and score a slick takedown. Gustafsson had done well against Jones’ takedowns earlier in the fight but this one proved deadly. Jones was able to work his way to the back and flatten “Mauler” out. Gustafsson covered up as Jones landed devastating punches to the side of the head for the eventual finish.

With this performance, Jones reclaims the same title he never technically lost in UFC competition. Jones has had his struggles outside of the cage and remains a wait-and-see kind of guy, but his actions inside of the Octagon are second to none. If “Bones” can keep his head on straight and the heat off his career, he shouldn’t have any trouble solidifying himself as the best fighter of all time.
