Michelle Waterson got back in the UFC win column last night (Sat., Sept. 12, 2020) at UFC Vegas 10 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as “Karate Hottie” outpointed game opponent Angela Hill via split decision in a fabulous main event clash.
Hill was able to land some really good right hands early into the first round as Waterson utilized leg kicks and some clinch work. After defending the first takedown of the fight Hill was able to really pressure Waterson against the cage and score some big points.
Wateron’s hands started to land in the beginning of the second as well as displaying a tighter defense. Hill kept countering and pushing forward with punches and kicks and ended up clipping “Karate Hottie” with a perfect right hand. After that punch, Waterson seemed a little off beat and it allowed Hill to take control of the fight.
In Round 3, Hill really relied on feints to throw Waterson off and allow herself to score some straight punches down the middle. The strikes began to pile up and Waterson’s face started to bloody. Fortunately for “Karate Hottie,” she was able to score a timely takedown halfway through the round. Waterson regained some momentum with heavy top pressure and started to land some solid punches and elbows while threatening to take Hill’s back.
The fourth round saw Hill land a crisp combination in the first minute that briefly stunned Waterson. “Karate Hottie” would return the favor with timely counters around the defense of “Overkill.” Waterson scored more damage with kicks to the body and legs.
Waterson landed more kicks to begin the fifth round as Hill relied on one-punch counters to keep things even. Hill kept pushing through the attacks and tried to get inside, but Waterson maintained her distance and relied on leg attacks for the remaining minutes. Hill also dug deep and landed some hard right hands as both strawweights unloaded down the stretch.
