Erislandy Lara became the first person to stop veteran boxer Danny Garcia earlier tonight (Sat., Sept. 14, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, retaining his WBA middleweight title with a ninth-round TKO.

Lara came into this fight having won his last five trips to the ring, including four knockouts and two title defenses. Despite turning 41 this past April, the Cuban finisher is still one of the most dangerous middleweights in boxing. Remember, he went to a split decision with Canelo Alvarez all the way back in 2014.

The champion did not show any signs of slowing down during his co-main event clash with Garcia. Lara commanded distance and the pace of the fight from the opening bell. It quickly became a one-sided affair as Garcia failed to land anything big enough to gain Lara’s respect. Lara’s output kept piling up and he eventually landed a sharp left hand that forced Garcia to a knee in the ninth round, which was the first knockdown suffered in Garcia’s career.

Garcia’s corner took a good look at their fighter and decided to wave the contest off. It was an incredible performance by Lara against one of the most durable veterans in the sport. Check out the video highlights below:
