Former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) king Marlon Moraes proved he’s ready for his first UFC title shot earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 2, 2019) at UFC on ESPN+ 2 live on ESPN+ from inside Northeast Olympic Training Center in Fortaleza, Brazil, when he choked out perennial bantamweight contender Raphael Assuncao via first-round guillotine.
It didn’t take Moraes much time at all to set Assuncao up and land the most meaningful shots. He blasted Assuncao with two huge right hands that dropped the elder Brazilian to the canvas. Moraes pounced on top but Assuncao was still there to defend. That was until “Magic” transitioned into a tight guillotine choke and forced Assuncao to tap.

With this performance, Moraes undoubtedly deserves a shot at current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw. But with Dillashaw intertwined in an ongoing soap opera with flyweight king Henry Cejudo, Moraes may have to wait a little longer to get his first ever UFC title shot.
But with four-straight victories, including three first-round finishes, Moraes has nothing left to prove en route to a championship opportunity.
