Gerald Meerschaert captured yet another Octagon finish earlier tonight (Sat., Mar. 7, 2020) at UFC 248 from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he stopped power puncher Deron Winn via third-round submission (rear-naked choke).
Both middleweights had their moments in this fight. The much smaller Winn had better success in the first round as he loaded up and landed power punches on the feet. Meerschaert had trouble adjusting to the height distance. In the second, Meerschaert started to take control with digging hooks to the body, which softened Winn up for the third. In the final round, Meerschaert got his hands going and landed a huge combination along the cage that stunned Winn. Meerschaert jumped on top and quickly locked in the definitive choke.

With this performance, Meerschaert gets back into the 185-pound win column after losing a split decision to Eryk Anders back in October. The 32-year-old veteran has now finished all six of his UFC wins and should use this latest stoppage to land a shot at the top 15 his next time out.
