Alex Perez returned to form earlier tonight (Sat., April 27, 2024) at UFC Vegas 91 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the flyweight veteran destroyed surging contender Matheus Nicolau with a monstrous one-punch knockout in the main event.
Perez came into this fight as the betting underdog and was out to prove a point. The former UFC flyweight title challenger has been competing in the promotion since 2017, but a recent three-fight losing streak had most doubting Perez’s relevance in the current title picture. He needed a big win to make his climb back towards gold.
On Saturday, Perez did just that. It was a competitive first round, but he looked bigger and more aggressive than Nicolau. The second round was the one that mattered most as Perez found an opening on the feet with about two minutes off the clock. He connected with a hard right hand along the cage that connected flush and instantly put Nicolau out. It was a vicious finish to say the least.
