Serghei Spivac pulled off a sneaky submission finish earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 10, 2024) at UFC Vegas 95 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, stopping heavyweight veteran Marcin Tybura with a first-round armbar.
This event didn’t offer much star appeal, but the headlining rematch between Spivac and Tybura did carry some weight. Tybura entered this fight having won eight out of his last 10 trips to the Octagon, while Spivac has gone 7-3. Both men had a lot to lose, especially Tybura who turns 39 in November.
Spivac looked good on the feet in the early going before landing a nice takedown along the cage. Tybura fought along the fence, but when Spivac stuck a foot out Tybura took the bait and Spivac took his back. Tybura would reverse and end up in top control only to have “Polar Bear” set him up for another trap.
Out of nowhere, Spivac quickly locked up a tight armbar. He stretched out Tybura’s arm as he screamed in pain and forced the referee to stop the action. It was a brutal finish to a card that had little pop from start to finish.
