Jairzinho Rozenstruik scored a memorable knockout finish over Alistair Overeem last night (Sat., Dec. 7, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 7 live on ESPN from inside Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., when “Bigi Boy” put an end to the former UFC heavyweight title challenger with a right hand from hell in the fifth and final round.
It what was a fairly lackluster main event that lasted way longer than anyone would have expected. Both heavyweights took their time advancing and really going for anything explosive. Overeem leaned on his kicks and timing to keep Rozenstruik at bay while “Bigi Boy” tried to load up for a one-punch kill.
While Rozenstruik’s waiting game left him trailing on the scorecards entering the fifth his luck would finally pay off. With less than 10 seconds left in the fight, Rozenstruik landed a sneaky uppercut from distance only to follow it with a blistering right hand that split Overeem’s lip in half and sent him flying into the cage. Overeem didn’t completely go out as he tried to return to his feet, but the damage was already done and the fight was waved off.

With this performance, Rozenstruik locks down his fourth-straight knockout win in as many UFC appearances in 2019 alone, making him one of the hottest fighters in the sport today. If it wasn’t for Jorge Masvidal then “Bigi Boy” may even be in consideration for Fighter of the Year, especially since he now has back-to-back knockout finishes over former world champions.
While Rozenstruik’s performance leading up to the fifth round was anything but impressive the surging knockout artist still prevailed and may have just locked down a fight with fellow power puncher Francis Ngannou.
