Johnny Fisher remained undefeated with a win over fellow Englishman David Allen earlier today (Sat., Dec. 21, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but his victory was marred with a bit of controversary.
Fisher, 25, came into this fight a massive betting favorite with an unscathed 12-0 professional record and seven-straight stoppages. Allen was the grizzled veteran at 23-6-2 and coming off two-straight decision wins. He wasn’t supposed to fight Fisher to the brink of defeat, but that’s exactly what happened.
Allen was game from the opening bell, but so was Fisher. Both heavyweights threw discipline out the window early on and gladly exchanged in an all-out fire fight. Surprisingly, it was Allen who eventually won that battle with a big-time knockdown in the fifth round. Fisher didn’t look the same after that point in the fight and started to eat some serious uppercuts and hooks inside. In fact, Fisher didn’t offer much of anything down the stretch.
It looked like Allen was going to walk away with the upset win when all 10 rounds were in the book. The English fighter even dropped to his knees after the final bell because he thought he had done enough to win the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title. Unfortunately, the judges had other plans and ended up awarding Fisher with the split-decision win.
It was definitely a controversial call, especially after seeing the damage done by Allen in the middle frames. Check out the video highlights below and let us know what you thought!
