Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk went toe-to-toe in a massive heavyweight title fight earlier tonight (Sat., May 18, 2024) at Ring of Fire live on DAZN PPV in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a main event spectacle to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999, it was Usyk who did enough to walk away with all four major belts.

Usyk was able to land some big shots early on as he pressured Fury and kept him on his back foot. Fury seemed comfortable fighting from that range, though, and welcomed every exchange with a taunt. “Gypsy King” started to open up a few rounds later with heavy body punches, upper cuts, and long jabs from range. Usyk was getting tagged and clearly needed to change up his game plan.

Usyk would regain a little bit of his composure in the seventh round with a nice offensive onslaught to catch Fury’s attention. The Ukrainian champion leveled “Gypsy King” again in the eighth frame and busted his nose and eye up pretty good. Usyk kept piling the offense on in the ninth round and badly hurt Fury, who began to wobble around the ring trying to keep himself up. Usyk wouldn’t stop landing punches and the referee eventually stepped in to rule it a knockdown and give Fury 10 seconds to recover. Once he recovered the bell sounded.

Fury looked drained for the tenth round, which allowed Usyk to pick his shots and stay out of any late-fight trouble. “Gypsy King” somehow regrouped in the final six minutes of action to land some good offense and force the title fight to the judges’ scorecards. In the end, it was Usyk who captured the split-decision nod.
