Whether she’s fighting first, second, co-main or headlining an event, you won’t hear current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Bantamweight title holder, Holly Holm, complain about her placement on a fight card.
That’s the reason she wasn’t concerned with the fact that her championship fight against Miesha Tate — which is set for UFC 196 on March 5, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada — wasn’t bumped up to headlining act once Rafael dos Anjos was bounced from his title fight against Conor McGregor.
That’s because even though McGregor will now headline the card against Nate Diaz in a non-title Welterweight bout, Holm is happy her fight remained as co-headliner because she gets to enjoy the rest of her evening sooner.
She explained her position when asked about the subject during her recent stop at “The MMA Hour:”
“I’ve never had preference if I main event, co-main event, first fight of the night or second fight of the night. The sooner you get in there and get it over with, the more you’re going to be able to enjoy your evening. After a fight, I love to be able to sit down and watch the main event. I think that’s just awesome. For me, that’s just selfish reasons. I hate fight night. I hate it, sitting in your locker room and just letting your nerves eat you away, I’m happy to be co-main event. Now I get to sit there and be entertained by the main event. I have no concern about being the main event because I am not there to say, ‘I am the main event.’ What is the main event? That’s just for headlines, media. For me, I am here to fight. I’m there to fight Miesha Tate on March 5 whether it’s at five o’clock, seven o’clock, 10 o’clock. It doesn’t matter to me, I still have to get in there and perform, I could care less, I just want to win.”

Of course, it’s safe to say that had it not been McGregor headlining the event, Holm vs. Tate would have more than likely been bumped to spearhead the pay-per-view (PPV) offering as the lone championship bout.
Nevertheless, “Preacher’s Daughter” is more than happy with fighting sooner rather than later, confirming what most fight fans already knew: She won’t get caught up with being a diva now that she’s sitting on top of the women’s MMA ladder.
