Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm will be one of several inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
Holm is widely regarded as one of the most successful female boxers in the sport’s history, accumulating a record of 33-2 during her time in the ring. She earned the WBF light-welterweight and welterweight titles before transitioning to MMA.
Holm made the transition to MMA almost seamlessly back in 2011, winning her first 10 fights which included her upset knockout over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193. She would then go on a three-fight losing streak before winning four of her last six fights in the octagon.
Holm isn’t the only boxing legend to enter the International Boxing Hall of Fame next year. Light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Roy Jones Jr., Miguel Cotto, and heavyweight boxing champion James Toney will join Holm in next year’s class. She’s also not the only woman in the class, a former flyweight boxing champ Regina Halmich will join her as well.
Holly Holm Is Considered A Pioneer In Women’s Boxing
Holm has been suffering from various illness-related issues in 2021 and hasn’t fought in the octagon since her main event win over Irene Aldana last October. She was set to face Norma Dumont on Oct. 16 before she was forced to withdraw, and Aspen Ladd filled in as a last-second replacement.
Holm’s first accolade in boxing came against Terri Blair in 2004, as she earned the inaugural IBA female light welterweight title. She would go on to defend it a few times before becoming a double champion at welterweight as well.
In Holm’s final fight in the ring, she defended her IBA and WBF light-welterweight titles against Mary McGee via unanimous decision before making the full-time transition to MMA.
Holm is anticipating a return to the UFC sometime in the first quarter of 2022.
