One of the best boxing matchups of the year will unfold later tonight (Sat., Oct. 17, 2020) live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, as pound-for-pound great Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) meets undefeated knockout sensation Teofimo Lopez Jr. (15-0, 12 KOs) in a lightweight title fight.
Lomachenko, who currently holds the WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, will be making his first appearance inside of the boxing ring since August 2019 when he knocked off Luke Campbell via unanimous decision. It will also be the first time “Matrix” is fighting in “Sin City” in nearly four years.
As one of the best boxers in recent memory Lomachenko is a heavy favorite entering this main event clash with Lopez. Lomachenko is rarely matched in speed, technique, precision, and footwork, so he’ll look to utilize all of that against an opponent with heavy hands and a young motor.
Lopez, who currently holds the IBF lightweight title, is coming off a masterful performance last December when he knocked out Richard Commey to claim the IBF belt. It was the sixth time in his last seven trips to the ring that Lopez has finished his opponent via knockout. He’s hoping to utilize his heavy hands and larger frame to impose his will against Lomachenko and score the upset finish.
If yesterday’s staredown is any indication of things to come then fans could be in for one heck of a title fight. Check it out below:
