UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira is practicing social distancing by staying on his farm while he waits out the coronavirus pandemic.
UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira can at least takes some comfort that he has a nice place to practice social distancing while he waits for the coronavirus pandemic to pass. After all, he’s not called ‘Cowboy’ for nothing.
With no fights on the horizon, and all future UFC events still up in the air, Oliveira is glad he managed to score a win against Max Griffin in his last outing The win bonus has really come in handy while he works around his farm in order to remain quarantined, but still active over the coming weeks.
In an interview with Combate, Cowboy spoke about how hard it has been to do much of anything during these times. But also about how working on the farm has been a good replacement for the physical training he can’t have at the gym right now.
“I knew it would be a tough fight. Max is pretty tough, I had to play it smart and keep my cool. If I had lost, it could have been the end of my career. That purse really came in handy, especially with this crisis going on all over the world. The purse has been really helpful. God willing, I’ll get a new UFC contract. I’m dying to fight again, to get in a brawl, to train properly. When the pandemic is over, we’ll get back into action.”
“This quarantine has been a struggle for everyone, not just for me.” Alex continued. “It’s been tough to train, work, pay the bills, shop, live a normal life. It will pass, God willing. My farm is my refuge. I can’t practice any physical activities, I might as well work hard. It’s good for your health and keeps me active. I hope this can soon pass, in Brazil and the rest of the world. I want to be back 100%.”
In his last outing, Alex Oliveira (20-8-1-2 NC) scored a split decision win over Max Griffin, back in March. The victory snapped a three-fight losing skid for the 32-year-old. with losses to Gunnar Nelson, Mike Perry and Nicolas Dalby. The bout also marked the last on his UFC contract. Making the victory that much sweeter, as it’s more likely to net him a new offer.
