Had it not been or his abrupt retirement for mixed martial arts (MMA), Brock Lesnar would’ve been the one fighting Daniel Cormier last Saturday night (Aug. 17, 2019) at UFC 241 for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight title, not Stipe Miocic.
But after the former UFC Heavyweight champion decided his fighting days were done, Stipe got his much-desired do over against “DC.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
Still, Brock has surprised many in the past and returned to fighting, even with medical issues holding him back. And one man who knows Lesnar very well is hoping the big man returns for one final UFC fight. According to ex-WWE champion, Kurt Angle, a fight against current Light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, could be what lures Brock back to the cage.
“I hope he does return. I know he said he was retired, but I think the one fight he wants, and I don’t know if it will happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones,” said Kurt during a recent edition on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.
“I think that would be an extraordinary fight. They are very different. Their sizes are completely opposite, but Brock’s a freak. He might not win all of his fights, and he may not be the more polished fighter, but he is an incredible athlete,” explained Angle.
“He could do anything he wants, play football or pro baseball, he could adapt to anything. Brock is an incredible athlete and wrestling him in the ring, I knew how great a athlete he truly is. I mean he could play basketball, he is unbelievable.”
Interestingly enough, Jones called Lesnar out following his second win over Daniel Cormier a couple years back. And despite Brock showing interest, in never came to fruition. Still, a fight between the two would do big business at the box office, and with no clear-cut contender at 205 pounds for Jones at the moment, now seems to be a good a time as any.
Still, it seems Brock isn’t keen on throwing real haymakers anytime soon, but you know it would sting Cormier just a little bit to see “Bones” get the big-money showdown with Lesnar after his fell through.
Brock hasn’t competed since UFC 200 where he defeated Mark Hunt via unanimous decision back in 2016. Of course, the fight was ultimately ruled a no-contest (NC) after he failed a couple of post-fight drug tests.
Prior to that, Lesnar had dropped his last two UFC fights, losing to Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem, both via first round knockout.
