Dana White has assured Tom Aspinall that a heavyweight title unification bout with Jon Jones is next and the UFC CEO is dubbing it the “biggest fight in UFC history.”
A heavyweight clash between Aspinall and Jones is one of the most requested fights in combat sports right now. Aspinall is the current interim UFC heavyweight champion and has finished his last three fights in a combined three minutes and 22 seconds. Jones, on the other hand, is the current UFC heavyweight champion and continued his comeback tour with a spectacular knockout finish over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 this past November.
Now that the “legacy fight” between Jones and Miocic is over, UFC brass can push for the long-awaited showdown between “Bones” and Aspinall. Jones has been reluctant in the past to entertain a fight with Aspinall, but the UFC legend seems to be coming around. It will be up to UFC and White to get a deal done and make Jones rich enough to fight Aspinall.
Earlier this week, Aspinall revealed that he had a conversation with White following UFC 309 in New York City that suggests a deal will get done. Aspinall couldn’t give specifics, but he provided a few details from his backstage encounter. Check it out below:
Tom Aspinall says Dana White met with him after #UFC309 and told him that the Jon Jones fight will happen
“He literally walked into the room and said ‘it’s happening, and it’s gonna be the biggest fight in UFC history’.”

“Actually, right after that press conference, I had a meeting with Dana,” Aspinall said during his appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” “So, in all honesty, I was expecting to come and maybe we negotiate a little bit. He literally walks into the room and said, ‘It’s happening.’ I said, ‘Well, he’s going to want loads of money.’ He said, ‘I know, but it’s happening.’ And he said, ‘It’s going to be the biggest fight in UFC history.’”
When asked if White’s comments meant Jones had actually agreed to the fight Aspinall couldn’t confirm. Despite the unknown, the English champion appears to be confident that Jones will step up to the plate.
“I don’t know,” Aspinall said. “In all honesty, Jon Jones is like… nobody knows what he’s doing, even the UFC. I don’t know. … I would imagine so. I would imagine so. I can’t speak for Dana.”
