Jorge Masvidal wants a second shot at Kamaru Usman over a lucrative fight with Conor McGregor.

Jorge Masvidal took a huge title fight on less than a week of notice, and it didn’t go so well for him. He dropped a wide decision to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and while he was never in trouble in the fight, he never looked very likely to win it either. It’s something that clearly eats away at him because in an interview on ESPN today, Masvidal was adamant that he wanted another shot at Usman:

“I want that damn belt, and I’m stubborn. And I know I’m better than Usman, and I want to prove it. I want to fight again. I’m not going to take nothing from him; he won the first one. Let’s do it again.”

He also went against his usual mantra when it came to a possible bout with Conor McGregor next. Normally Gamebread is all about money but in this case, the title is more important to him because he’s making what he thinks he deserves already:

“You can tell me that McGregor right now would make X, Y, Z dollars, the biggest pay-per-view you get in history, right, and I’m going to get paid forever,” Masvidal said. “I feel I’m getting compensated well enough now that if I keep making the right decisions I’ve been doing, this money is forever money. So it’s not about money.”

McGregor claims he’s “retired” anyway, so that doesn’t seem like a good option next anyway. But who knows.
