It’s ‘now or devastation’ for Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC 212 in Brazil
Some people may be overlooking Oluwale Bamgbose ahead of his matchup with Brazilian prospect Paulo Borrachinha tomorrow night (Sat., June 3, 2017) at UFC 212 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bamgbose has produced a pedestrian 1-2 record since entering the promotion back in 2015, including a knockout loss to Uriah Hall in his debut, but the 29-year-old striker believes he has patched the holes in his game.
“My game wasn’t complete,” said Bamgbose in a recent interview with UFC.com. “When I fought Hall, I had been on the ground, but usually I was the guy on top or I got right back up. When he took me down, I couldn’t get back up and then he TKOed me and it was my first time getting hit by a solid 185er. It was like a mountain hitting me in the face and crushing my face. So I was able to get used to that. And then I started to train with other bigger bodies, so my body, my mind and my physique can handle that. And why even get hit at this point, now?”
Bamgbose, who has a black belt in Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Kung Fu, is one of the more athletically gifted strikers at 185 pounds. But considering “Holy War Angel” only has one UFC victory to his name, he will enter UFC 212 in a do or die situation.
“It’s now or never, it’s now or devastation,” said Bamgbose. “It’s either I accept my destiny or I accept nothing. I’ve tasted that, it does not taste good, it’s not fitting at all, and I’m sick of it. I’ve starved, and because of starvation, it has made me hungry. And I need this and I want this and I’m gonna win. I’m not gonna lose again.”
Saturday will mark the first time Bamgbose will fight on a UFC PPV card, making UFC 212 his most important Octagon appearance to date. Only time will tell if the New York native can finally find his groove within one of the more difficult divisions in the sport.
