Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title contender Yoel Romero turns 44 in April and has lost three straight fights, but when you compare him to some of his 40-something contemporaries, like Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, you can argue the “Soldier of God” is doing alright.

But a lot is riding on his next fight.

The still-jacked Romero (13-5) will throw hands with light heavyweight power puncher Anthony Johnson at the upcoming Bellator 257 event on Showtime, scheduled for Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on April 16, 2021.

“Many people have asked me why they didn’t see me going up to 205 in the UFC,” Romero said (via CBS Sports). “I tell them that now I am in Bellator and the 205 is the same as in UFC. There are tough guys. [Ryan] Bader is an ex-champion, you have Phil Davis and Corey Anderson. These guys, every time and for a long time, have been a tough fight in the UFC at light heavyweight. This is no joking, this is no joking. It is very good.”

Romero’s last win came over Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 back in early 2018.
