Virna Jandiroba has some names on her mind after finishing Kanako Murata at UFC Vegas 29.
Former Invicta FC strawweight champion Virna Jandiroba is glad she scored such a dominant win at UFC Vegas 29. After beating Kanako Murata to a doctor stoppage TKO win, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist already has some names on her mind for her next outings, including a familiar face.
In an interview with Combate, Jandiroba revealed she wanted to rematch the last woman who defeated her in the Octagon: Mackenzie Dern. However, knowing that pairing might not be in her path in the near future, Virna mentioned a more viable opponent: Nina Nunes.
“I was tempted (to call out Dern), but I’ll talk about the rematch later. I hope I can fight a girl in the top 10. We’ve been accepting all the fights the UFC offered us. We don’t pick opponents, but now I’ve been thinking about a girl in the top 10. I thought about Nina Nunes.”
“With all due respect to all the girls in the division, I would like to face better-ranked girls now.” Jandiroba continued. “I want to climb the ladder and be among the best. So Nina is a name I’ve been considering.”
With such a dominant performance Murata, where Jandiroba suffered no damage, the Brazilian expects a quick return to the Octagon. With half a year still to go, Virna expects to fight two more times before 2021 is over.
“I’m willing to fight next week. Just kidding. I’m not hurt, though. I feel fine and I want to do at least two more fights this year. When the UFC calls me, I’ll go. All they have to do is give me a call and I’ll be there.”
Before defeating Murata, Jandiroba had dropped a unanimous decision to Mackenzie Dern, back in December 2020. Prior to the defeat, the 33-year-old was on a two-fight winning streak with submission victories over both Mallory Martin and Felice Herrig. In her Octagon debut, ‘Carcara’ dropped a unanimous decision to former champion Carla Esparza, in April 2019.
