Johnny EduardoBrazilian bantamweight Johnny Eduardo (26-9) has been forced out of his upcoming UFC 158 match versus Haitian-Canadian fighter Yves Jabouin (18-8) due to a shoulder injury. This leaves the ‘Tiger’ without an opponent less than two weeks before the scheduled March 16 event.

Whether UFC officials can find a new opponent in that time remains to be seen.

Eduardo announced the news on Twitter (@JohnnyEduardoN) as well as confirming the injury with Tatame.com.

(Google Translation) “I had a shoulder injury, so I was just doing an MRI to determine the severity. With my team, I decided to quit the fight… I really wanted this fight because Jabouin is a guy who has the game like mine, that part up too. I’m sure it would be a great battle… I’m sure he was also extremely sad because of my injury. I apologize to him, but these things always happen in our sport. Regardless of the location, I want to fight him. If the UFC could only postpone the fight, I would be very happy.”

UFC 158 is scheduled to take place on March 16, 2013 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Eduardo is 1-1 with the UFC picking up his first Octagon win in May of last year by winning a decision against Jeff Curran at UFC on FUEL TV 3. He had been linked to a UFC 139 bout with Michael McDonald but an injury forced him out of that fight as well. Eduardo debuted at UFC 134, losing to Raphael Assunção in August 2011.

Jabouin saw a three fight win streak end last September at UFC on FUEL TV 5, after suffering a first round knockout versus Brad Pickett in Nottingham, England. The three victories included wins over Jeff Hougland at UFC on FUEL TV 3, Walel Watson at UFC 140 and against Ian Loveland at UFC 134.
