Steve Carl will put the WSOF welterweight title on the line Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nev., and there’s a man waiting for his opportunity next.

World Series of Fighting executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com that UFC veteran Jon Fitch will headline WSOF 11 card in the first week of July against the winner of Carl vs. Rousimar Palhares. The exact date and the host city for the card are yet to be finalized.

Carl (21-3) submitted Josh Burkman in October to win the inaugural welterweight champion in WSOF, and Palhares (15-5) earned an immediate title shot in his debut after a 31-second submission victory over Mike Pierce in the UFC.

Fitch (25-6-1, 1 no-contest) signed with WSOF after a eight-year, 14-3-1 run in the UFC. In his promotional debut, Fitch suffered a shocking 41-second submission loss to Burkman, but returned to the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Marcelo Alfaya.
