UFC light heavyweights, as well as former training partners, champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (15-1) and ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans (17-1-1) have agreed to meet in the headliner of this April’s UFC 145 event.
The news was announced by Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports on Monday night.
UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans will take place on April 21, 2012 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The two former friends have been opening feuding since Jones said he’d face Rashad if UFC president Dana White told them too.
Evans returned to the number one contender position last month with a unanimous decision win over Phil Davis at the UFC on FOX 2 show in Chicago. That was ‘Suga’s’ fourth straight victory since losing the title to Lyoto Machida at UFC 98.
Jones had talked about taking some time off after his recent win but opted to step back into the cage instead. ‘Bones’ defended his title last December, submitting Machida at UFC 140 in a “Fight of the Night” match. Previous to that, ‘Bones’ also stopped another former champ with a choke, forcing Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson to tap at UFC 135.
