Rising star, UFC light-heavyweight Jon “Bones” Jones (11-1) could shoot right for the top of the division and the only thing that could stop him from taking the title is having to face a team-mate or friend in the octagon. Jones is a member of Greg Jackson’s Submission Fighting Gym, along with team-mate Rashad Evans who is next up for the UFC light heavyweight title.
“If Rashad Evans won the belt, which I’m hoping he does, my only goal would be to be the toughest contender there is, and keep whipping butt without being champion.
“I’d stay at 205 and be the second best. That would be my goal. As I said, I’m hoping he wins, we’re very proud of him. I couldn’t do it, he’s my mate.”
Jones is tentatively scheduled to face Ryan Bader at the yet to be announced, UFC 126 event on Super Bowl Weekend.
