UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will defend his 205-pound title in the main event of UFC 140 against Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, currently scheduled for Dec. 10, 2011, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto–according to UFC President Dana White’ official Twitter account.
Earliar this week many were speculating that it would be Rashad Evans who would be facing off against Jones on he UFC 140 card but that fight seems to have failed to happen once again. Evans recently had surgery to remove pins from his reconstructed hand following his UFC 133 win over Tito Ortiz last August. The timing of the surgery, as well as the mandatory recuperation period, has prevented Evans from starting a training camp in time to make the Dec. 10 contest and thus making that fight unable to happen again.
Machida who hasnt fought since his stunning knockout of Randy Couture at the UFC 129 event back in April, hs said that he’s been itching to get back into action and now has the chance to reclaim the belt he lost to “Shogun” Rua in their second encounter.
