If Matt Hamill was smarter, he would have approached his disqualification win over Jon Jones a much different way.

That’s according to “Bones,” who was “blindsided” by “The Hammer’s” recent Instagram post. It seems Hamill wanted a light heavyweight rematch to settle their 2009 controversy (more on that here) and wondered aloud if Jones would be clean the second time around.

“Damn Matt, the disrespect,” Jones wrote on social media. “Thought you were smarter than this. Honestly, I’ve never said a bad thing about you.”

Jones had a pair of high-profile drug test failures at UFC 200 and UFC 214.

“Honestly, I was just blindsided,” Jones continued. “He’s a fellow upstate New York guy. Over these years I’ve always given him mad love. Funny how people are. I’m not even mad at him though, I understand it’s his claim to fame. Just wish he would have went about this a different way. It’s whatever.”

The only reason we’re talking about their 205-pound contest from 2009 is because UFC President, Dana White, decided to petition Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to have the loss overturned, for purposes not yet understood.

After all, Jones is scheduled to defend his championship title against top light heavyweight contender, Thiago Santos, in the UFC 239 pay-per-view (PPV) main event in less than two weeks in Las Vegas, and has more important things to worry about (like this).
