Jon Jones spoke out about Israel Adesanya again.
Jon Jones is still talking about the newly crowned middleweight champion in Israel Adesanya. Soon after his big win at UFC 243, many spoke about a potential super-fight between the two champions given their history of already talking smack against each other.
Jones issues a response on Twitter, questioning Adesanya’s confidence.
By the time this kid gets his confidence together I’ll probably already be in the heavyweight division. I don’t need to wait till 2021 to start believing in myself https://t.co/PE16eSVl9i

“By the time this kid gets his confidence together I’ll probably already be in the heavyweight division,” Jones wrote. “I don’t need to wait till 2021 to start believing in myself.”
Jones is referencing Adesanya recent statements, saying that the light heavyweight champion isn’t the same fighter anymore and that he predicts they’ll match up early 2021.
Adesanya explained how this is because he will likely first have to defend his belt a couple of times against middleweight contenders (like Paulo Costa) that are already lined up. Jones of course, just attributed this to a lack of confidence from the newly crowned champion, in a bit of a pot and kettle moment.
While Jones criticized Adesanya and mentioned heavyweight in that tweet, he has notoriously avoided moving up in weight despite first winning the belt almost a decade ago. He has essentially cleaned out the light heavyweight division multiple times over, and his last two title defenses were against former middleweights. Maybe with Adesanya, he’s angling to make it three in a row.
