Jones Trained Romero — And Now Whittaker Might Be Screwed

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, by his own admission, can’t bust a grape, which is the price one must pay when born with long, skinny limbs.

Hence the nickname, “Bones.”

But what if Jones could put his style of attack into a muscular power puncher like Yoel Romero? The results might produce something crazy, like a thunderous knockout that would result in an immediate title shot.

Oh wait, that really happened.

“People talk about my ‘gas’ but it wasn’t easy to fight Luke Rockhold,” middleweight title contender Yoel Romero told Joe Rogan (via MMA Fighting). “I went to Albuquerque with Jon Jones and I learned something. They controlled my attacks, so I learned when to attack. If you go, go, go, you will get tired. So I had to learn to pace myself. I don’t have a problem with five rounds now.”

Did he have a problem with five rounds last summer?

That’s when Romero came up short on the judges’ scorecards, resulting in a unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC 213 in Las Vegas, Nevada. “The Reaper” captured the interim crown with the win, then graduated to undisputed champion when Georges St-Pierre hit the bricks.

Romero will have a chance to avenge that loss when they run it back at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) event on June 9 in Chicago (details), though something tells me we may not see a fifth round.

Anyone disagree?
