Jones Wants Lesnar, Not Crybaby Cormier

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was already in talks to make his heavyweight debut in a pay-per-view (PPV) “super fight” against former 265-pound titleholder and current pro wrestling deity, Brock Lesnar.

Then “Bones” went and flunked his UFC 214 drug test.

Not only did that torpedo his Lesnar payday, it overturned his knockout win over Daniel Cormier, a performance that finished what Jones started with a UFC 182 unanimous decision victory over “DC” back in early 2015.

That’s why Jones is more interested in a fresh take for his eventual trip north.

“I’d take Brock Lesnar,” Jones told MMA Junkie about choosing between Lesnar and Cormier. “I’d take Brock Lesnar because he brings in a whole different audience and people have already seen me make ‘DC’ cry twice already. I’ve got nothing against that guy. Let him have his heavyweight dominance.”

Cormier is also setting his sights on a Lesnar showdown.

That’s because the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) headliner is one of the biggest draws in combat sports, for reasons not quite understood. Outside of his “it factor,” he’s a below-average mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who previously failed a drug test.

Any talk of Jones moving up to heavyweight or fighting a new opponent is premature at this point. “Bones” can’t make any plans until he first disposes of Anthony Smith in the UFC 235 main event this Sat. night (March 2) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
