Jose Aldo drug tested again, urine sample will be sent to Salt Lake City lab

Following a controversial drug test on Thursday morning, UFC champion Jose Aldo underwent another test Friday in Rio de Janeiro, and this time it’s for good.

A tester accredited by WADA, alongside with a Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) official, visited Nova Uniao on Friday morning and collected a urine sample from the 145-pound kingpin. The sample will be sent to WADA-accredited Sports Medicine Research & Testing Laboratory in Salt Lake City, CABMMA informed MMAFighting.com.

On Thursday morning, Drug Free Sport director Ben Mosier visited Nova Uniao for an unannounced drug test, and the Aldo agreed to take the test. His coach Andre Pederneiras decided to contact CABMMA when Mosier said the Brazilian commission wasn’t informed about the test, and later found out that Mosier didn’t have the proper visa to work in the country.

Aldo’s urine sample from Thursday was discarded by the fighter, as requested by the tester, and Mosier was fined and given eight days to leave the country by the federal police.

CABMMA COO Cristiano Sampaio invited Mosier to watch their collecting process Friday at Nova Uniao, and the Drug Free Sport official went to the gym to follow the procedure.

“That’s normal,” Aldo told Combate on Thursday. “We reached a point in this sport that not only me, but every fighter has to go through this. This is my first time in Brazil. I think the Brazilian commission should be the one handling this, for the fact that I live here. But that’s not an issue. It’s nothing for me. Fight, pee, it’s the same thing to me.”

On Twitter, featherweight contender Conor McGregor and his coach John Kavanagh reacted to the news.
