The summer of injuries lives on, and Jose Aldo has now joined its growing list of causalities.

Aldo, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, was removed from the main event of UFC 149 after suffering an undisclosed injury, promotion officials announced on Saturday.

With Aldo sidelined, UFC 148’s interim bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao will now headline UFC 149.

Officials have yet to comment if Erik Koch, Aldo’s opponent, will remain on the card, only stating that the title tilt is “postponed.”

UFC 149 takes place July 21, 2012 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Canana. Already, the main card has been eviscerated by injuries, losing Michael Bisping, Mauricio Rua vs. Thiago Silva, and Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Thiago Alves in recent weeks.

With Faber and Barao off UFC 148, promotion officials have not revealed a new co-main event. Barao, of course, is an injury replacement for UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who suffered an ACL injury while coaching opposite Faber on The Ultimate Fighter Live.
