Jose Aldo on potential T.J. Dillashaw superfight: ‘This kid is just starting’

RIO DE JANEIRO — Is T.J. Dillashaw facing another Nova Uniao fighter after beating Renan Barao for the second time?

The UFC bantamweight champion, who dominated and finished Barao at UFC no FOX 16 in July, has said multiple times that he would love to face UFC featherweight kingpin and Nova Uniao star Jose Aldo.

“I wanna fight Aldo so bad, dude,” Dillashaw said back in November. “I will beat Aldo. I wanna fight him.”

Aldo faces interim champion Conor McGregor next, and that’s the only “superfight” UFC fans will get right now.

“The superfight will happen now, between the champion and the interim champion. What T.J. said will happen now,” Aldo told the media during UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro. “Conor and I will fight and, if God wants, I will continue to be the champion.”

The featherweight champion gave Dillashaw props following a second TKO victory over his teammate, but said he’s not in a position to call out another UFC champion yet.

“About T.J., congrats to him, he defended his title one more time against Barao, but he has no right to demand anything,” Aldo said. “This kid is just starting, and his division isn’t talked about yet, so he has to try to make his name first before trying to hit someone.”

Aldo is expected to face McGregor in December, while Dillashaw should meet former champion Dominick Cruz in his next title defense.
