The Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed the appearance of featherweight champ José Aldo (18-1) at the upcoming UFC 129 event in Toronto. It was made official during this weeks episode of “UFC Ultimate Insider” on Thursday. UFC 129 will take place April 30 at the Rogers Centre in the promotions first visit to Toronto and the Province of Ontario.
No opponent was confirmed for Aldo but UFC President Dana White has assured Mark Hominick a shot at the belt if he should win his fight this Saturday against George Roop at the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event in Fort Hood, Texas.
Also confirmed four more bouts for the card, making bouts between Phil Davis vs. Matt Hamill, Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson, Jason MacDonald vs. Ryan Jensen and Brian Foster vs. Sean Pierson official.
Aldo has won eleven straight fights and will make his UFC debut at the Toronto event. The Brazilian earned eight straight victories in the WEC including three “Knockout of the Night” bonuses. He would earn the WEC featherweight title in November 2009 by defeating Mike Brown at WEC 44 and go on to defend the belt two more times. His last victory was in September against Manvel Gamburyan, a fight he’d win by knockout in the second round at WEC 51.
