Featherweight fighter Josh Grispi (14-1) will not get to fight for the featherweight title when he makes his UFC debut on Jan. 1st. He had been scheduled to face champion José Aldo in the co-main event, but will now take on Dustin Poirier (8-1) on the UFC 125: Resolution card. No word on where the bout will place on the card, but it’s likely the fight will not serve as the co-main event.
Heavy.com was the first to report the news this afternoon.
Grispi has earned ten straight victories, four with the WEC, winning six of his victories by knockout and seven by submission. He defeated LC Davis last June at WEC 49 in his last appearance, earning him the “Submission of the Night” honor. Grispi has also earned wins over Jens Pulver, Micah Miller, and Mark Hominick while fighting under the WEC promotion.
Poirier meanwhile, went 1-1 with the WEC bouncing back from a loss in his promotional debut by defeating Zack Micklewright by TKO this month at WEC 52. He lost a Decision to Danny Castillo in his first WEC fight at WEC 50 last August. It was his first defeat and the first time a fight has made it into the third round for him.
UFC 125: Resolution will take place on January 1st at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event his headlined by a UFC lightweight title bout between champ Frankie Edgar and top challengers Gray Maynard.
