Julie Kedzie recalls soiling herself in front of Vladimir Putin

Retired fighter Julie Kedzie recalls what she described as her favorite MMA story.

Every fighter has his or her notable moment throughout their respective careers, whether it is memorable or otherwise. For retired UFC fighter Julie Kedzie, it was a little bit of both.

During a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Kedzie recalled a time when she had her unglamorous yet comical moment in front of Russian dignitaries and other big names in the MMA scene. It happened in 2007 in St. Petersburg in Russia, when she fought Julia Berezikova at Bodog: Clash of Nations. It was a card that also featured a heavyweight clash between Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Lindland.

Kedzie ended up victorious in said fight via second round TKO, but suffered a bloodied up nose in the process. According to her, she had already accidentally soiled herself in the corner during the break after the first round.

“In between rounds, another cornerman put cold water on the back of my neck and I thought that I just farted,” Kedzie told Rogan (transcription via The New York Post). “I thought it was a fart but it turns out…”

Right after the fight, Kedzie recalled that she was immediately told to get on a bus along with the other fighters who won that night. Initially, she was unaware about where they were headed, until she saw that they were brought to a palace in St. Petersburg, upon arrival.

“I’m standing there in fight clothes. I’m like, ‘What is that smell?’ I had seen a guy puking backstage because of a headshot and I thought I must have rolled in it or stepped in it. I smelled so bad.”

“And Jean-Claude Van Damme randomly walks up to us. Fedor [Emelianenko] was there, Jean-Claude Van Damme, this and that. It was just weird and surreal and I already had head trauma going on so wasn’t really in my right mind.”

It was only when she took a bathroom break when she found out what had really happened. After cleaning herself up, she went back out, only to be greeted and even hit on by high ranking politicians.

“So then I have to go back out there and (former Italian Prime Minister) Silvio Berlusconi was hitting on me and trying to pick me up,” Kedzie said. “He was like, ‘Hey, can I be your boyfriend tonight?’”

“He’s saying it through a translator. And I’m like, ‘I smell like s–t.’ I was as cleaned up as I could be, but I was like, ‘You are a dirty motherf—er.’”

“And Putin comes and puts his arm around me and I’m like, ‘This is weird as hell.’ I s–t myself in front of foreign dignitaries in another country. And that’s probably my favorite MMA story.”
