A featherweight bout is being reported by MMAWeekly.com late Tuesday night, pitting a returning Junior Assunção (12-4) against Tachi Palace champion Eddie “The Filipino Phenom” Yagin (15-4-1) for next months UFC 135 event.

The website learned of the bout through sources close to the match-up, noting that verbal agreements were in place at this time and the two were expected to meet on the undercard of the Colorado show.

UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage is set to take place on September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado and is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champ Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

Assunção makes his way back to the Octagon after a two a four year absence that saw him go 1-2. His last appearance was at UFC Fight Night 11 where he lost by submission to Nate Diaz. Since then the Brazilian went 7-1 and is currently riding a six fight win streak earning three decision wins, two submission victories, and one knockout stoppage.

Junior’s brother Raphael Assunção also competes in the UFC, earning a win last weekend at UFC 134.

Yagin recently earned a submission win over former Bellator champ Joe Soto at a Tachi Palace Fights event earlier this month, putting ‘The Filipino Phenom’ at 2-0 this year and 7-1 in his last eight. Yagin trains alongside UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz at the Alliance MMA gym in California.
