Karate Combat has announced their third event, One World, to be held from the observation deck of Freedom Tower in New York City on September 27th.
On the heels of their finish-happy sophomore event “Olympus,” Karate Combat has just announced the promotion’s third show, “One World,” will occur on the observation deck of One World Trade Center, commonly refereed to as the Freedom Tower, in New York City on Thursday, September 27th. This will be the first time that a sporting event will be held at the top of One World Trade Center, and the news was revealed one day after the 17th anniversary of the horrendous September 11th attacks that led to the destruction of the iconic Twin Towers that once stood.
With the Freedom Tower nearly reaching such great heights as 1,400 feet, One World will also set a world record for highest sporting event held from ground level. Although 1,400 feet from the ground is quite a ways up, don’t expect to see altitude being much of a factor, like we see when athletes compete in places like Denver, Colorado with an altitude of 5,000+ feet or Mexico City, Mexico at 7,000+ feet. In a press release, the league’s CEO Michael DePietro had this to say about his upcoming event:
“This fight is a celebration of everything karate stands for, at the top of one of the most meaningful buildings in the world,” DePietro continued, “Strength. Respect. Unity. It’s the perfect way to introduce Karate Combat to New York City.”
Karate Combat: One World will be headlined by New York City’s Abdalla Ibrahim taking on Pan-American champion Dionicio Gustavo from the Dominican Republic. The co-main event of the night will see Greece’s Dimitris Triantafyllis squaring off with Luis Rocha from Brazil. Other fighters on the card include Josh Quayhagen from Louisiana, Elhadji “Black Magic” N’Dour from Brooklyn, and Adham Sabry an Egyptian-New Yorker.
Karate Combat is no stranger to unique locations. Their inaugural event, Inception, occurred outdoors on the water in Miami, Florida with the audience taking watch from atop shipping containers. To set the bar even higher, the company took the full-contact karate league to the Zappeion Courtyard in Athens, Greece, which was the site of the 1896 Olympics. Having their third event atop the Freedom Tower in NYC is another outside the box idea that is a fresh breath of air from the traditional and routine combat sports venues.
Karate Combat’s first stop in New York City will stream live at karate.com, on its Android and iOS apps and new Roku channel, along with UFC Fight Pass, CBS Sports Live, DailyMotion, Dr. Oz’s CombatGO, FITE, YouTube, Pluto TV, Eleven Sports, Klowd TV, and The Fight Network.
