A lightweight bout between Kenny Florian (14-5) and Evan Dunham (11-1) had been rumored for the Super Bowl weekend UFC 126 event, but will now headline the upcoming UFC Fight for the Troops 2 event in January.
The news was first reported by Heavy.com and has been confirmed by several media outlets.
UFC Fight for the Troops 2, or UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2, is being scheduled for Jan. 22nd at the US military base in Fort Hood, Texas.
“KenFlo” is coming off a #1 contender loss to Gray Maynard, having dropped a unanimous decision at last Augusts UFC 118 event and is 2-2 in his last four. He defeated both Takanori Gomi at UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Gomi and Clay Guida at UFC 107 in his last two wins by submitting each fighter by rear-naked-choke. The other loss in that stress was to BJ Penn at for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 101.
Dunham suffered his first career defeat, losing a close split decision to Sean Sherk at UFC 119 in Septmeber. So far in the UFC, Dunham is 4-1 with the promotion having beaten Tyson Griffin at UFC 115, Efrain Escudero at UFN 20, Marcus Aurelio at UFC 102, and Per Eklund at UFC 95. Dunham has won six of his eleven career wins via submission.
