It appears that two time UFC lightweight contender Kenny “Ken-Flo” Florian (14-5) will definitely be making a drop to featherweight as the fighter broke the news on ESPN’s ‘MMA Live’ program that he’ll be facing Deigo “The Gun” Nunes (16-1) at the upcoming UFC 131 event in Vancouver.
This will be Florian’s featherweight debut for a fighter, who started with the UFC as a middleweight way back in April of 2005, he fought Diego Sanchez on the original “Ultimate Fighter” losing out to “The Nightmare” in the middleweight finale.
Florian enters the bout with Nunes on a loss to Gray Maynard after a #1 contender bout, losing via unanimous decision after scoring victories over Takanori Gomi and Clay Guida. “Ken-Flo” fought once at 185 lbs, then dropped to 170 lbs for two bouts, winning them both, before finding a home at 155 lbs amassing a 9-3 record with the UFC as a lightweight fighter.
Nunes has won three straight, including his UFC debut at UFC 125 where he earned a split decision over former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown. Fighting under both Zuffa promotions the Brazilian is 5-1 and has yet to finish, or be finished in any of those fights. He’s earned three unanimous decisions and two split decisions, with the lone loss coming via unanimous decision.
UFC 131 is expected to take place on June 11 in Vancouver, Canada at the Rogers Arena. The headliner, not yet confirmed though, will be a #1 heavyweight contender bout between Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos.
