Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, unified the 155-pound titles with a third-round submission win over former interim titleholder, Dustin Poirier, in the UFC 242 pay-per-view (PPV) main event earlier this month on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

In the wake of his triumph over “The Diamond,” Nurmagomedov swapped shirts with the Louisiana native and promised to put it up for auction, with the proceeds going straight to Poirier’s The Good Fight Foundation, currently working with Fight For The Forgotten to help the Pygmy water crisis in Uganda.

The result was a $100,000 payday.

“It’s great because it’s going to help a lot of people,” Poirier told MMA Junkie about the contribution from Nurmagomedov. “I’m proud of that. I appreciate them helping out the charity. It’s been growing and I’m very grateful for that.”

UFC President, Dana White, promised to match that amount.

Nurmagomedov, ever the philanthropist, also wanted UFC to build a stadium in Sudan in order to stage a massive mixed martial arts (MMA) event while simultaneously raising $30 million for the dying people in Africa. The means to that end? A lightweight “super fight” against former welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, of course.

Better work on that Senegalese wrestling.
