“If he wants to come back and fight with me he will have to cut weight, and he have to come to lightweight division.”

No matter how many times Georges St-Pierre says he has retired, fans insist that the pound-for-pound great should come back for a mega-fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, is making final preparations for this Saturday’s headlining title unification bout against Dustin Poirier and, during Wednesday’s UFC 242 open workouts, ‘The Eagle’ fielded questions from fans about a potential fight with St-Pierre.

If in the unlikely scenario GSP did come out of retirement, Nurmagomedov says the former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion would have to make the cut to 155-pounds, as Khabib has no interest in changing weight class.

“I want to stay in a lightweight division,” Khabib said, per Alok Nayak of Essentially Sports. “I feel I can make this weight. This is my weight. And I don’t want to jump to featherweight or welterweight. I want to defend my title and improve my legacy”

“I never talked with UFC about George St Pierre. And they never asked me. He is one of the greatest athletes to ever compete. But he is retired. If he wants to come back and fight with me he will have to cut weight, and he have to come to lightweight division.”

UFC 242: Khabib vs. Poirier takes place this Saturday, Sept. 7 at at The Arena, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
