It may not have been the right uppercut he was looking for but light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz still scored a definitive knockout win last night (Sat., Feb. 15, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 167 live on ESPN+ from inside Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, when he slept Corey Anderson just minutes into their main event title eliminator.

Anderson was the more active fighter in the early going with loose hands and pressure inside. Blachowicz kept his composure and countered nicely to the body and head. “Overtime” still moved forward and ended up eating a wicked right hook counter on the chin that sent him to the canvas. Blachowicz followed up with an unnecessary shot as Anderson was already out and the referee stepping in.

With this performance, Blachowicz locks down his third-straight win at 205 pounds and does exactly what he needed to do in order to secure the next shot at Jon Jones’ UFC light heavyweight title. The 36-year-old contender is now 7-1 in his last eight Octagon appearances and clearly has the striking and punching power to give “Bones” some trouble.
