Officials with the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion announced a light heavyweight bout between undefeated Swedish striker Jörgen ‘The Last Viking’ Kruth (5-0) and Brazilian Fabio Maldonado for the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 5 event in England.
UFC on Fuel TV 5 is expected to take place on September 29, 2012 at Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.
Kruth, who has over eighty pro-fights as a kickboxer, is so far undefeated as a mixed martial artist and will make his Octagon debut at the FUEL TV event. He was to debut at UFC on FUEL TV 2 this past April versus Cyrille Diabaté but was forced out with an injury and replaced by Tom DeBlass. ‘The Last Viking’ had his last mma bout in November of last year in Sweden, where he earned a first round TKO finish of Japanese fighter Yusuke Kawaguchi at a local Rumble of the Kings 6 event.
Maldonado is likely fighting for his job on the FUEL TV card after back-to-back losses in the Octagon. Maldonado suffered a decision loss to Igor Pokrajac in May at the UFC on FUEL TV 3, as well as a decision defeat versus Kyle Kingsbury at the TUF 13 Finale. The Silver lining in the loss to Kingsbury was the “Fight of the Night” bonus for the event. Maldonado won his Octagon debut at UFC 120 back in October 2010 when he stopped James McSweeney in the third round of their bout in London, England.
