A lightweight matchup looks to be on tap for the upcoming UFC event in Brazil later this summer between Spencer “The King “Fisher (24-7) and Thiago Tavares (15-4-1).
Both men have made verbal agreements to meet according to MMAjunkie.com, after news of the bout was reported earlier by Portal do Vale Tudo.
UFC 134/UFC Rio is expected to take place on August 27 at the HSBC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Middleweight champ Anderson Silva will defend his title against Yushin Okami in the headliner.
Fisher is coming off a loss and sports a 1-3 record in his last four, so “The King” likely has his back against the wall when he meets Tavares. His last octagon appearance was in February in Australia at UFC 127, losing a unanimous decision to Ross Pearson. Before the loss Fisher earned a decision over Curt Warburton at UFC 120.
With the cut-throat lightweight division, Tavares likely finds himself in the same position after dropping his last fight. His last four fights put him at 2-1-1, having been knocked out by Shane Roller at UFC on Versus 3 last month. The other three bouts in that record saw him submit Pat Audinwood at UFC 119, fight Nik Lentz to a majority draw at UFC Fight Night 20, and win a unanimous decision against Manvel Gamburyan at UFC 94.
