The Warriors Cup XIII
Dec. 3rd replay available

Weapons 9 Promotions presented full contact Muay Thai in Lincroft, New Jersey with Warriors Cup XIII and streamed on GFL.tv. The evening’s festivities overcame some pre-show challenges, and the 14-bout pro/am card delivered in the ring and made for an exciting night of standup fights with some of the best Muay Thai action in the States.

The scheduled main event, between Gabriel Varga and Justin “The Purple People Eater” Greskiewicz was cancelled a day before the event because of an undisclosed injury to Greskiewicz. Nevertheless, the fights inside of the ring still showed that Warriors Cup XIII was worth the price of a ticket and/or to watch on the GFL Combat Sports Network.

In the night’s final pro bout Ryan Murray defeated James “B-52″ Smith by TKO (doctor stoppage) due to a torn bicep at the end of Round 2. With the victory, Murray wins the vacant WBC Muay Thai National Super Cruiserweight Title. The action heated up midway through the round when Smith delivered a series of punches and knees that forced the ref to give Murray a standing 8-count. In Round 2, it was Murray who began to go to work with some stiff shots, both punches and kicks that seemed to take the air out of Smith. The fight looked to be tied up at one round apiece heading into the third round, but the doctor stopped the bout in between rounds after Smith was unable to continue with his injury.

The other pro bout of the night saw Ognjen Topic defeat Anthony Demaio by TKO/doctor stoppage (cuts) in Round 2. Round 1 was a solid round of action, but neither fighter wanted to open up his full arsenal. The end came after Topic was able to land a solid elbow and cut Demaio near the eye in Round 2. The cut was pretty deep as blood started to immediately poor from the wound. That single strike was enough, as the bout was halted by the referee so the doctor could check Demaio and the fight stopped.
