UFC 277 live stream results and play-by-play updates: UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena will make her first 135-pound title defense against former division titleholder Amanda Nunes in the five-round main event TONIGHT (Sat., July 30, 2022) at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, a rematch from their UFC 269 showdown that ended in favor of “The Venezuelan Vixen.” Before that showdown of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 30 coaches gets underway, former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno will look to claim the interim crown in the absence of current 125-pound champion Deiveson Figueiredo. Standing in his way is hard-hitting flyweight contender Kai Kara France, winner of three straight. Elsewhere on the card, former heavyweight title challenger and master of the 265-pound knockout, Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis, returns for three rounds of violence against fast-rising Russian import Sergei Pavlovich.

135 lbs.: UFC Bantamweight champion Julianna Pena vs. Amanda Nunes

Round 1: Nunes switching stance, tries a head kick. One minute in. Pena tries a flurry. Nunes low kicks. Counter right lands for Nunes two minutes in. Counter left as they exchange, southpaw jab soon after. Check hook catches Pena coming in and briefly sends her to a knee. Two minutes to go.

Another check hook badly wobbles Pena, Nunes stays patient, slams home another low kick. 1-2 from Pena with a minute to go, then an overhand to answer a low kick. Nice jabs. Nunes shoots, denied. Pena pops her with a straight right, eats some hard straight lefts in return. 10-9 Nunes.

Round 2: Just as she’s finding a bit of success on the feet, Pena runs face-first into a counter right that sends her to the mat. Nunes waves her up when the immediate finish isn’t there. One minute in. Pena tries to blitz, and in a manner eerily reminiscent of Miocic-Werdum, Nunes blasts her with a counter right for another knockdown. Again Nunes waves her up. Snap kick to the body. Flurry by Pena. Two minutes in. Solid two-piece. Fighting with their lead hands. They trade with two minutes to go.

Brutal counter two-piece by Nunes, then a ramrod left for knockdown number three. Again she waves Pena up. One minute to go. Right hook off the temple buzzes Pena yet again. Pena comes back with a right hand, gets pressed against the fence. 10-8 Nunes on damage.

Round 3: Nunes puts Pena on the fence a minute in. Body kick when they separate. Right hook up top. Straight left prompts a blitz from Pena, who lands but runs into counters. Lead right by Pena and Nunes trips her to the mat in response two minutes in. Full guard. Pena trying to bring up her guard with two minutes to go.

Hard elbows from Nunes open Pena up. One minute to go. Pena tries to turn for an omoplata, nothing doing. Some final GnP before the bell. 10-9 Nunes.

Round 4: Easy double-leg puts Nunes on top in guard. Pena goes from triangle to omoplata, eats heavy punches for her trouble. One minute in. Periodic shots from Nunes. Pena gets in deep on an armbar, but Nunes weathers it and takes side control two minutes in. Back to guard. Heavy elbows. Two minutes to go.

More elbows piling up. Nunes postures out of an armbar and they return to the feet. Pena’s a bloody mess and Nunes is stalking, Another easy takedown into guard. Standing over Pena with a minute to go. Nunes lets her up. Throwing hard counters. Pena tries to jump in again and gets taken down again. More damage piling up. 10-8 Nunes.

Round 5: Yet another double-leg for Nunes into guard. Pena again tries the triangle-omoplata series to no success. Nunes moves to the front headlock and looks for an anaconda choke, can’t get it and they separate. Another takedown into side control, dropping elbows. Two minutes in. Pena holding onto a kimura grip. Nunes nearly takes her back in response, settles for half guard. Two minutes to go.

Elbows from Nunes. Huge diving right from Nunes, looking for the crucifix, takes the back instead. Near-miss on the RNC, moves to half guard. She stands over her and taunts until the bell. 10-9 Nunes.

Round 1: Kara-France looking for low kicks, falling short. Brief collision, no clean connections. One minute in, Moreno takes a low blow that pauses things. Still mostly feints on both sides two minutes in. Low kick by Kara-France to answer a head kick attempt. Looping hook connects for Moreno, first major punch of the fight. Kara-France low kick. Two minutes to go.

Long right hand from Kara-France lands clean, prompting Moreno to tie up. Kara-France manages to separate. Kara-France low kick Moreno left hook. One minute to go. Both wing big right hands. Moreno briefly backs him to the fence. 10-9 Moreno?

Round 2: Kara-France denies a 1-2, separates. Leg kick. Low kick from Moreno a minute in. Moreno ducks a head kick and grabs a body lock. He gets Kara-France to a knee, fires elbows on the way up. Kara-France leg kick two minutes in. Moreno shoots, denied. Two minutes to go.

Overhand right lands for Moreno. Very tit-for-tat exchanges so far. Seemingly ramping up a bit. One minute to go. Quick combo from Kara-France knocks Moreno off-balance. Low kicks. Moreno answers with a left hook and body kick. Body shots. 10-9 Moreno.

Round 3: Kara-France catches a body kick and settles in guard, dropping punches as Moreno brings his legs up. Some technical difficulties, so we’ll restart halfway through the round. Moreno sporting an ugly cut under his right eye. Low kicks from KAra-France, overhand right by Moreno. More Kara-France leg kicks, good left hand. Moreno low kick with two minutes to go.

Moreno 1-2. Double jab to body kick. Hard left hook after avoiding an overhand right. Starting to regain momentum. One minute to go. Kara-France shoots, denied, eats a spinning back fist. Moreno follows with a vicious body kick that sends Kara-France to the mat, where “The Assassin Baby” buries him in punches to secure the interim flyweight title.

265 lbs.: Derrick Lewis vs. Sergei Pavlovich

Round 1: Less than a minute into the fight, Pavlovich clips Lewis mid-brawl and begins chasing him around the fence. Lewis falls to his knees under the onslaught and sends the referee into action, much to “The Black Beast’s” anger.

Final result: Pavlovich def. Lewis by TKO (punches)


125 lbs.: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Alex Perez

Round 1: Pantoja comes out throwing vicious heat and Perez is right there with him. Perez shoots, rebuffed, gets taken down in return, and gives up his back in the scramble. Pantoja playing backpack against the fence. One minute in. Hunting the RNC. He’s got it locked up on the chin and a murderous squeeze forces the tap. What a performance from Pantoja.

Final result: Pantoja def. Perez by submission (rear naked choke)

Round 1: Hard low kick from Semelsberger after coming up short with a 1-2. Left hook connects. Morono tries a 1-2-3. Nice counter right a minute in. Solid 1-2. Semelsberger still advancing, walks into a right cross. Morono tries a spinning back kick. Counter hook by Semelsberger, who gets badly rocked by a check hook. Morono doesn’t jump on him. Two minutes in. Wheel kick whiffs. 1-2 by Morono. They trade in the center. Semelsberger 1-2 with two minutes to go.

Another nice 1-2 by Morono. Low kick to 1-2 by Semelsberger in return. Morono takes a finger in the eye. Semelsberger aggressive on the reset, hauls him to the fence. One minute to go. Both land elbows on the break. Morono lead right. Nice combination. Semelsberger’s left eye is swelling shut. 10-9 Morono.

Round 2: Morono continuing to move well. 1-2. Stiff jab from Semelsberger in return. Some good exchanges, Morono still getting the better of it. One minute in. Semelsberger falling well short with his power shots. Spinning back fist to right hook by Morono. Two minutes in. Morono overhand right. Long uppercut and inside low kick land for Semelsberger. Morono answers with a series of jabs. Wheel kick falls short. Semelsberger continuing to punch from about a foot out of range. Two minutes to go.

Combo lands for Morono in center cage. There’s a counter right from Semelsberger, who misses badly with his followups. He rushes in, denies a takedown. Jockeying for position on the fence. Semelsberger denies a takedown and lands on top in guard. Morono looks for an armbar and eats punches. Brutal elbows now and some final punches. 10-9 Morono.

Round 3: Semelsberger comes out slugging and floors Morono with a flying knee. Morono manages to tie up and regain guard. Trying to play a high guard, gets slammed. Semelsberger looks for the back, flying knees him in the fence on the way up. One minute in. He tries a spinning elbow on the exit. Morono continuing to circle. Two minutes in. Nice jabs. Semelsberger took his foot off the gas. Morono left hook. More jabs landing. Semelsberger firing leg kicks. Two minutes to go.

Big left hook by Semelsberger. Right cross inside. Flying knee falls short. Counter right by Morono. Semelsberger to the body. One minute to go. Superman punch, knee to the body. Morono tries an outside trip, threatens a front headlock, lands a knee. Semelsberger chasing, denies a final takedown, eats a knee. 10-9 Semelsberger.

155 lbs.: Rafael Alves vs. Drew Dober

Round 1: Brief pause to deal with some tape on Alves’ toe. He tries a cartwheel kick when they resume, then eats a straight left. One minute in. Alves rushes in with a combination and bullies Dober down from the front headlock. On top in half guard. Two minutes in. Back to full guard. Short punches from Alves. Two minutes to go.

Alves stands over him. Hard low kicks. Dober gets to his feet. Nice check hook by Alves. Big exchange in center cage with a minute to go. Dober to the body. Head kick attempt. Alves staying near the fence, dodging a lot. Combo from Dober in the waning seconds. 10-9 Alves.

Round 2: Dober advancing, lands to the body. Solid body kick and Superman punch. Another body shot, big combo behind it. Alves lingering near the fence, eats a body kick. One minute in. Counter left by Alves. Heavy pressure from Dober, continuing to land lefts to the body. Teep by Alves. Dober wheel kick falls short two minutes in. Alves lead right. Three-piece by Dober. Round 1: Early jab from Abdelwahab. Mayes whiffing with kicks. Hard low kick by Abdelwahab. Two-piece falls short. Mayes tries a combo a minute in. He blocks an overhand right. Hard 1-2 appears to sting Mayes. Mayes comes back with a body kick. Counter left by Abdelwahab, who sprints after Mayes and unloads on the fence. Punches piling up and he follows with a big suplex. Holding onto a body lock. Knees to the thigh from Abdelwahab. Two minutes to go.

More little knees. One minute to go. Referee separates them. Mayes tries a flying knee, lands a front kick downstairs. Falling short with kicks, lands a swatting overhand and they slug until the bell. 10-9 Abdelwahab.

Round 2: Low kick and left hook by Abdelwahab. Counter right. Knee stomp by Mayes. Body kick and a hard southpaw 1-2 that sings Abdelwahab. Mayes pouring it on, blasts him with a flying knee. Abdelwahab’s face appears damaged. Hard uppercut. Abdelwahab manages to weather the onslaught Mayes body kick. Abdelwahab winging bombs and falling short. Trading jabs. Mayes just misses with a wound-up uppercut. Body kick connects. Low kick on the other side. Two minutes to go.

Lead right by Abdelwahab, who avoids a front kick and kicks Mayes in the groin. Brief pause. Solid counters by Abdelwahab. One minute to go. Mayes rushes in with…something and ends up on his back in half guard. Abdelwahab trying to drop shots. 10-9 Mayes.

Round 3: Abdelwahab rushes Mayes to the fence and takes him down into half guard. One minute in. Mayes works his way up, dragged right back down. Short elbows by Abdelwahab. Two minutes in. Mayes holding him tight. Abdelwahab with some arm punches. Two minutes to go

More arm punches by Abdelwahab. Mayes completely unable to stand. One minute to go. Ref stands them up. Mayes tries a flying knee, lands a body kick. Overhand right by Mayes, left hook by Abdelwahab. Klose changes levels and puts him on the fence. Rear body lock, trying to take the back. He drags Garcia to his knees. Garcia pops up, dragged down, back up. One minute to go. Klose kicks his base out. Short left hands. Garcia rolls for a kneebar, can’t get it. 10-9 Klose.

Round 2: Klose tries a wheel kick, shoots behind it, no dice. Body kick connects. One minute in. Garcia fires a body kick. They trade low kicks. Nice reactive double-leg puts Garcia on top in guard. Two minutes in. Half guard. Garcia staying heavy. Two minutes to go.

Ref stands them up. Garcia shoots, denied. Body jab. He grabs a front headlock and tries to snap Klose down with a minute to go. Nice knee. They separate. One minute to go. Lead hook attempt by Garcia, counter right. Klose fires a big looping uppercut and springs after Klose, who lands a right hand but gets dragged to the bat in the waning seconds. 10-9 Garcia.

Round 3: Sneaky knee from Klose behind a high knee. Garcia shoots, denied. One minute in. Nice reactive double-leg puts Garcia on top again. Klose tries a guillotine, gets to his feet, cracks Garcia with an uppercut on the exit. Counter uppercut lands for Garcia two minutes in. Lead hook. Klose lands a hard cross and denies a shot, prompting them to whack each other from the single collar tie. Garcia landing on the retreat. Good right hands. Low kick from Klose, avoids a shot. Two minutes to go.

Garcia lead right. Counter elbow. Klose continuing to pursue. He lands a body kick, stops a takedown. Back to hurting each other in the clinch with a minute to go. Klose shoots, denied, avoids a guillotine. Another attempted takedown by Garcia rebuffed. 10-9 Klose.

Round 1: Early jab from Morales. They trade low kicks. Fugitt busy with kicks. Straight right by Morales a minute in. Nobody landing clean as of yet. Morales tries a Superman punch, denies a takedown attempt. Body kick from Fugitt, who gets his head snapped back by a hard cross. Two minutes in. Nice inside trip puts Fugitt on top in guard. Morales trying to kick him off, can’t do so. Now he elevates and sweeps to his feet. Counter right by Fugitt. One minute to go. Hard left hand. Another hard left on the fence. Morales tries to blitz in return. Heavy series of rights from Morales. Superman punch met by a counter. Stiff jab appears to sting Fugitt at the bell. 10-9 Fugitt.

Round 2: Morales tries a Superman punch as Fugitt spins. Straight right lands for Morales. Another loaded-up right and a stiff jab. Morales catches a kick and briefly grabs a body lock. One minute in. More jabs. They trade near the fence and Fugitt finds the mark with right hands. Body shot. Solid knee by Morales as they pivot. Fugitt tries a head kick two minutes in. Morales 1-2. Fugitt leg kick kicks off a heavy exchange. He fires kicks, has them caught.

Fugitt shoots, denied, lands a body kick. Counter left. Morales 1-2. Big combo by Morales goes body-head. One minute to go. Fugitt rushes in, changes levels, no dice. Both land on the break. Counters by Morales as he retreats, avoiding a spinning back fist. Quick cross at the bell. 10-9 Morales.

Round 3: Fugitt finding the mark with his left hand as he presses forward. 1-2 by Morales prompts a level change. Separation. They continue to trade and a 1-2 crumples Fugitt. Morales pouring on the hurt and another knockdown on a heavy right hand prompts the stoppage.

135 lbs.: Ji Yeon Kim vs. Joselyne Edwards

Round 1: Edwards throwing a lot of volume early. One minute in. Plenty of kicks. Kim looking to find her opportunities, lands a 1-2. More kicks from Edwards. Two minutes in. Kim eats a body kick, falls short with a 1-2. Now she counters one with a clean right cross. Long combo by Edwards with two minutes to go.

Edwards body kick. Not a lot landing clean but she’s putting a lot out there, and Kim’s doing more moving than countering. One minute to go. There’s a counter hook by Kim. They trade on the fence. Nice exchanges. Edwards puts her on the fence and they trade knees. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 2: Edwards continuing to control the distance with her kicks. There’s a nice 1-2 from Kim and Edwards responds with a flurry of kicks. One minute in. Both connect with straight rights. Both tossing out kicks. Kim jab, Edwards head kick. Two minutes in. Edwards tries a slow wheel kick. Side and front kicks to the midsection. Short left hook by Kim as she continues to eat kicks. Kim not eating as much but just isn’t doing enough. Two minutes to go.

Body kick by Edwards. Big 1-2 by Kim stings Edwards. Follow-up body shot. One minute to go. More kicks by Edwards. Kim lands a nice body kick and they tie up. She reverses a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Kim, I guess? Only meaningful damage.

Round 3: 1-2 by Kim to start. Left hooks as they trade. Edwards blasts her with an uppercut in return, then moves awkwardly after landing a low kick. One minute in. Kim 1-3. Edwards shoots after eating a low kick and hauls her to the fence. Two minutes in. Kim reverses, but gets tossed into side control. Edwards looks for mount, then grabs an armbar as Kim sweeps. No dice. Two minutes to go.

Edwards stands when Kim gives her space, gets tied up. Jockeying for position. Edwards connects on the break. One minute to go. Lots of posturing, no attacking. Edwards falls way short with another wheel kick. Brief exchange, both land well. They slug in the waning seconds. Think Kim threw that away by not doing enough. 10-9 Edwards.

205 lbs.: Nicolae Negumereanu vs. Ihor Potieria

Round 1: Potieria already talking trash, landing low kicks. Low-high two-piece by Negumereanu, who shoots behind it and takes Potieria to the fence. One minute in. Short right hand from Negumereanu. Little trip nearly gets Potieiria down two minutes in. Short left hands as he forces Potieira down. Half guard. Potieria lands an elbow off his back. Two minutes to go.

Potieria regains guard. Stack pass by Negumereanu, can’t get the back as Potieria stands. Single-leg puts him back on top. Standing over Potieria with a minute to go. He lets him up. Counter right from Negumereanu. Potieria low kick. 10-9 Negumereanu.

Round 2: Both landing hard in the early going. Solid long-range work from Potieria. Hard straight left. One minute in. Continuing to land, eats a 1-2 in return. Big overhand right by Negumereanu. Good right on the exit, then another behind it and a knee downstairs as he ties up. Solid elbow. Two minutes in. Uppercut, spinning elbow on the break. Potieria looks pretty gassed, still lands a left hand. Counter right knocks him back. Slow-motion spinning back fist whiffs for Potieria, who eats a right on the break. Negumereanu fakes a level change, blasts him with knees, then starts pouring it on. Negumereanu unloading artillery against the fence that launches Potieria’s mouthpiece somewhere into the third row. Monstrous knees finally send the ref into action.

170 lbs.: Orion Cosce vs. Mike Mathetha

Round 1: Low kicks from Mathetha to start. Solid combinations in center cage. More kicks piling up at range. Cosce lands an overhand left, then shoots against the fence a minute in. Knees from Mathetha as he defends. Two minutes in. Cosce landing his own knees. Mathetha gets double unders and reverses. Reversed in turn. Cosce tries a head-and-arm throw, no dice. Nice hip toss into side control with two minutes to go.

Hammerfist from Cosce, not landing much. He lands an elbow, looks for the back as Mathetha stands. Awkward suplex nearly ends with him on the bottom. Back to grinding on the fence. Mathetha tries a head kick on the break. Nice head kick at the bell. 10-9 Cosce.

Round 2: Mathethe going back to the kicks, lands a solid left hand. Cosce ties up, avoids a throw, gets taken to the fence. Jockeying for position. One minute in. Shoulder strike by Cosce. Elbow attempt. Two minutes in. Cosce trying to change levels. Separation. Low kick by Mathetha. Body kick in combination. Two minutes to go.

Cosce left hook, Mathetha head kick. Mathetha with an elbow. Cosce looking tired, gets cracked by a spinning back fist while landing his own. He manages to tie up. One minute to go. Cosce completely gassed, eats another elbow. He changes levels. Mathetha trying to land elbows as he defends. He slips throwing a knee, lands a final jab. 10-9 Mathetha.

Cosce tries to get the arm triangle again, nothing doing. Now on the other side. Elbows. Mathetha tries to sit up, gives up north-south. Retakes the back with a minute to go. Now looking to drop GnP. Half guard. 10-9 Cosce.
